What do you guys think of this bumper?

scrambler project

i agree that is why if you check out my lastest post on some different types of bummpers i am looking at.. the bumper in that pic again is from some time back and since then i got the big simpson winch that i have been trying to mod the bumper around... my first try is ok at least i have learned the proper way to attach and hold the winch... now i have to find one that gives me the looks and works well... those lights have been removed and am considering a number of other changes as well... take a look at the two bumpers and give me what you think... i am open to any ideas at this point... also i will start up again soon the rest of the rebuild of the scrambler thanks for your ideas

bumper air tank

have to thought about some kind of a drain... any tank used for compressed air will create water that needs to be drained or will cause rust and will contaimate the air lines or and will also need a filtering system... i have seen other atemps in using roll bars as air tank also... let us know how it works out... on the scrambler i went another way see pic

Nice looking front bumper. I like the tubework, and I like the way the "wings" taper back on the ends.
I think it is sharp. This post could not have come at a better time for me because my "new" bumper is in pieces right now on my work bench. Seeing all of these nice bumpers has been good inspiration.
Do you have any build up photos from your project, or any detail shots. Do you have enough to do a build thread?

Nice work.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear when I suggested it earlier.

I cut a triangle out behind the front face, then bend the front face back, but the back face stays straight, rather than hooked.

I usually cut it so the very end is about 1/2 the thickness of the bumper. You don't want it sharp.

It gives the appearance of sleek without the hook.

I like my Warn bumper.. Its strong and i beat the hell out of it sometimes. And its like 50lb. If i was going to add any bars to it i would just make a hoop that would follow the grill up and stand an 1" or 2 over the hood to keep me front killing the front of the Jeep in a roll.

Olin...except for a pic of the bumper without the tubes...no other pics...but a little info...

The main part is made out of 2"x5"x1/4" rectangular stock...pretty easy to cut and bend.

The attaching plate is 1/4" plate steel bent over the front frame. Note: The CJ is about 4" more narrow than the YJ or TJ...I picked the 1/4" plate because my front frame has been hacked on over the years...first, it was a POS Smittly Built 'tubular' bumper...then I did an SOA...so I wanted a bit more support across the front...especially for when I add a whinch. So...the 1/4" plate is just bent around the front frame and bolted on in 6 places. We had to weld in some nuts due to access problems.

The rest is just 1.5" tubes as you see it.

A lot of good points were brought up.....as for protecting the hood in a roll over....if my roll over is bad enough to damage the hood....I think the hood is the least of my worries.

For what I do, a stubby would have been just as functional....if not more so.....but, we had the time and material....so this is what we came up with.
