I thought all along that my "92 XJ had a D35c,well, thank God i was wrong.I found out it has a Chrysler 8.25. At first i didn't think in '92 that they put the 8.25 in the XJ's. They started putting them in as early as '91&up.Found out that when they finally ran out of D35c's,they went to 8.25's. Mine is a XJ Sport model,so maybe they used the 8.25's in the Sport from '91-01. Then went to all 8.25's in maybe '96 ? I'm just quessing, don't hold me to this
. Maybe someone already knew this, i just never asked
. I'm just happy i don't have a D35c. Although, then the 8.25 was only 27 spline, just like the D35c. They later went to 29 spline. web page

personally Id rather not have a 8.25 its a "c-clip" axle, meaning you bust that little c-clip and there goes your whole tire and wheel rolling right past you

oh, and my 94 sport has a 35

The C-clip came out in 1990. Chances are, if you have a '90 thru around '96? ( I could be wrong on the years ). Then you will either have a D35c or an 8.25 Chrysler. All this time i've had my XJ i thaught it was a D35c until i matched the rear diff. photos on younger-bros.com
Can you take the C-clips out, and still be ok? Or do you have to modify? I realize the 8.25 is C-clipped, but, it is still stronger than the D35 or D35c.

fyi the "c" in dana 35c does not stand for c-clip it stands for custom, somebody here pointed that out to me a while back because thats what it stood for
