I've been using Permatex Ultra Copper RTV Silicon. It seems
to be a little easier to clean off than some of the other
silicons I've used.Seals good too.

RTV. Super black, super grey, or the orange.

That's all I've ever used. The grey and black are great for low temp stuffs. The orange works well in higher temp areas.

the right stuff is the best gasket maker hands down. it will outlast the other brands. it is also used by some of the auto manufacturers such as ford.

Right stuff is right stuff, apparently

Well, it's easy enough to find the "right stuff" with a google search. Permatex makes the right stuff. Here is the link I found to explain it:

http://www.permatex.com/right_stuff/right_stuff1.asp

Sounds like the right stuff. Whatever marketing people came up with that name certainly earned their salaries.

PS--there are a LOT more links on it. Just do a google and see for yourself. Even though it's pricey, I plan to buy it next time I need a gasket. Why bother with RTV or the various off-shoots. This one sounds like the right stuff.

Re: Right stuff is right stuff, apparently

when i built my motor sarge told me to get the right stuff

i had to pull the oil pan 2 months later. it would not come off i bent the oil pan and still no go
i had to take a razor blade and cut it in between the block and pan to release it
then i called sarge to tell him all he could do was laugh and say did not leak did it
its about 11.00 but if they are out i use red rtv or grilla snott just depends on where it is going

sent to ol'lady to the zone to pick up some snott one time she made me write down the real name because she thought i was joking untill the girl behind the counter yelled across the room for some guy to grabe her a tube of grilla snott

grilla snott = yellow 3m weather strip adhesive

LOL , you missed the one point I made about The Right Stuff , use it sparingly . I learned the hard way too , had to break a water pump in half to remove it , it does seal up very well though . I glue my diff's in the housings with it , always have to use the jack to break it loose when I take the gear out , good stuff indeed .... if don't ever want to remove it , give it a real thick coat of #5 Indian Shellac , nastiest snot ever made..
