What year and model can I get the T-18 off of to put in my 83 CJ7? It's out of a F-100 2wd, correct? How can I tell what year car it is? Thanks for all the help.
Ford used the t-18 from 65 to 85. Have you checked out the article that Terry Lowe did on swapping a ford t-18 into a cj., it is very informative. I is in this off road .com somewhere.I printed it out one time but forgot where put it . I just put a Ford NP 435 in my 82 CJ-7 and I love it,my final reduction ratio is somewhere around 55-1.
I did the swap in my CJ-7 some years ago, the article covers a swap I helped a friend do. I would go with an 80s or late 70s
T-18 because they moved reverse out and down. It used to be out and up which causes more miss shifts when going into
3rd. I got the T-18 in my CJ-6 (used to be in my CJ-7) out of an '83 F-250. You most likely find one in an F-250 or F-350. I
think the F-150s started using a lighter duty 4 speed in the mid 80s.
