I've been sitting on this project for a while and finally got into it....
My goal was to make the area behind the dash more accessable as well as the gauges themselves which reside in the dash vents....
Randy's aluminum dash panel inspired me....
Here's a pic of the mock-up dash with the hinged panel down.....

Here's a pic of it in the open position......

I have to address securing it down as well as maybe not cutting out as much as I did to support the dash a bit better........
I'm glad I'm doing this on a spare dash......

The hinges I used were "slip apart" hinges I found in a slavage store on Cape Cod over 20 years ago.... It;s one of the few times that saving something for so long actually paid off.....

Once everything is together, another part of the plan is to make disconnects for the gauges so the entire panel can be removed.....

crow, great idea! looks like i need to ad another "must do" mod/project to my already overwhelming list of stuff to do this spring/summer.

i tossed a couple old zuk dashes in the burn pile at my mother-in-law's farm. if they aren't already burnt i might grab them and use them for practice.

No worries Randy, I very much appreciated the offer though...

Looks like I have nearly everything to do this for real now on my rig.... well, excepting the securing or latch part....

I don't think I'll cut out as much as I did on the mock-up dash. I'm concerned about leaving it without proper support...
