I was chatting with someone at work today, and they brought up fiberglass leaf springs. I've never really heard of them, but I can believe they're out there. They said they flex really well, and don't fatigue like metal springs. Anyone have any experience with them? You'd think if they're all the rage that you'd be reading about them and seeing them in catalogs.

From what I've heard (not experienced), they REALLY don't hold up well to rock hits (SNAP!) and can weaken from stress fractures over time with heavy use.

hint: Chevy used them on the Astro Van for 3 or 4 years...you do the math.

I think most of them were replaced with steel, under warranty

And at 213k miles, mine haven't had any problems.

Corvettes also used them.

I don't think they would flex as far as steel but I could be wrong.

the first mod alot of folks do to those vettes is pull the stock springs ad run carbon fiber transverse leaves, for whatever that is worth.

the goal is totally different for a vette vs Jeep obviously.

Does anyone know who makes/sells these? I would be interested to talk to the manufacturer and get some data. I rememeber some years back seeing them on a yellow YJ in on of the offroad magazines, but never seen or heard of them since.
