It's a heavily tapered shaft, so there will be a gap - mine was about 1/2" or so. Just enough to see the twist in the splines./wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't buy Valvoline - they (at one time if not now) support gun control & I don't.

Yeah, the power was fine, but I had a SEVERE wander & leak. Now that I've put the new one in, I noticed that my rag joint is
SHOT - I'm kinda wishin' I hadn't mailed off my spare to abrrox so quickly. But NOW... almost no power assist on the new box, and I can't get the bolt in the clamp just below the rag joint when it's splined up on the input shaft. It goes in fine when it's apart, but it won't catch when they're together. So I gave up at about 11:30 last night after putting the bolt in, lining it up with the flat on the shaft, pounding it on as far as it would go, and then clamping the $#!T out of it - I made it to & from work, so it was good enough. I'm waiting for the engine to cool a little before I bust a few more knuckles this evening. I don't know if I should pull it & get another box, or just try to bleed it again. First, I'm gettin' my core charge back on the '83 box!/wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif I pity the fool that ends up with THAT thing if they actually rebuild it! I may post a pic of the twist on the splines later...
*OK I was trying to put the clamp bolt in with the flat on the shaft facing the side & the flat in the clamp facing down./wwwthreads_images/icons/blush.gif I guess I should restrict my repairs to daylight from now on.../wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif I still have VERY LITTLE power assist even after bleeding & purging it again, so I guess I'm gonna have to pull the bit(# off again! I wonder if the Zone sells good boxes?/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif*

Build it; Don't buy it...
