The transmission (E4OD) went into "failure management" mode on the way to lunch today. I parked, ate, then ran some more errands and it was fine. Maybe a fluke? Or an indication of problems to come?

I haven't checked the fluid today, but I did check it a week ago and it was fine. Probably have <5K on this oil and filter.

Maybe a fluke, I tell you what, having a computer control everything is sometimes more of a PITA.....

Check fluid, keep a close eye on how it is shifting, and probably first thing is to disconnect the battery and have the brains reset. Then if it repeats I would start worrying. I would say something is amiss and causing the alarm to go off. That reading I believe tells you something major is wrong with the signals it is getting (fluid pressure, timing of events, info. from engine, etc.) and is beyond acceptable parameters, so it swithces into failsafe mode (precalibrated settings that are ok to get you to where it can be fixed). Can you pull codes?
