Gonna be redoing the whole exhaust sometime around christmas...

gonna go with a thorly header and 2" pipe all the way back...

have ya'll found it to be cheaper to just buy a muffler and cat from whoever puts on the pipe, or would it be cheaper to buy the muffler and cat from petroworks?

i'm just gonna have them install the header when i find someone to do the rest of the exhaust work... is this the best plan of action?

i've never messed with exhaust before and i've been saving my money so that i could do it all at once... anyone have any other suggestions?

Hey good to see you here!

When I took my Sammy in to have it's exhaust-ectomy, I ended up buying the whole deal from the dealer. A little over $300 for 2.25" pipe, Cat and exhaust from the end of the Thorley to just behind the left rear wheel.

I can't recall the price of the muffler and cat from petroworks, but unless they are somehow magically better in some mystical way, you'll get a better deal getting it done at a local shop with their muffler and cat. Hey, it's a Samurai, not a Testarosa...

Okay, let's hear the "pro" comments on buying Petroworks' cat and muffler. I'd like to know, as would Tex, here. And the argument "They use highly-refined unobtainium." will not be accepted!

muffler shops SUCK A$$...i would rather replace my exhaust system with a galvanized plastic straw than subject my baby to the likes of a FUC^%$^& muffler shop...but ifg i had no choice.....
well i'd seek out a welder and have a "custom" job done...

What is the concensis on running a cat, does it make your exhaust smell better? It is kinna sorta not really required down here in FL, but if it makes it smell better and helps out the enviroment I am all for it. I'd go with a FLOWMASTER! A guy @ a ride I went to a little while ago had one on his zook and it sounded bad a$$! The idle was the best!!! I have a l-cheapo cherry bomb turbo II (14.95) muffler with no cat, I am planning to have 2" w/high flow cat and 2" flowmaster series 40.. Flowbees are cool.. :D

I'm LOCKED!

Exhaust for me too...

I'm gonna be getting an exhaust built soon as well and I only have one worry. I DO NOT want it to sound like those "nancy" Civic's and CRX's we have drivin' around. If only it could sound like a small block Chevy...ahhhh....(drool).... Those little crappers sound like lawnmowers rippin around! My Zuk sounded sweet when I had the exhaust ripped off just behind the header! Loud as hell, but still sounded better. My local shop said they would install a stainless steel exhaust all around for $300 Canadian, which is about $200 US. This included a Magnaflow stainless muffler. Still, I'm worried about the sound. As for a cat, could pick up a high-flow 2" in and out for about $100 installed. All in all, less than $300 US installed and it's STAINLESS! Shop around, and you'll find a worth while place. We have a shop about an hour away that built my buddy's Vette's stainless exhaust for just over 4 bills Canadian! There are cheaper shops out there, you just have to find them. At least I won't have to shell out another $1000 for this exhaust like I did for the Borla on my T/A! LOL
Good luck!

Re: Exhaust for me too...

a&M 225 for the cat is a lil high man a local shop could give just as close to the same thing! I just redid mine with 2 1/4" pipe bendable pipe from discount auto! finishin it today and like the results I did with my new welder!
