Exhaust Questions

I am trying to decide which exhaust I want on my Jimmy. I have heard of Ravin exhaust, and only 3 people have it in my town. But, I would rather stick to Flowmasters and 2.5-3 inch pipes. Which are better? And, what Flowmaster series is better? 40 or 50? I want good, deep, sound, and I want it to flow straight through.

Should I get an H-Pipe? What does it do? Is it neccessary for what I want done? Should I run headers? I am going to be On-Road more often that Off, and I am not sure If headers are something that would be a good item to add or not. I am looking for good gas mileage also. I will be running a 350, probably bored 0.30 over. Horses and Torque are what I want in immense amounts. LOL. But I would like to be able to pass gas stations too. Thanks.

If you run duals, 2.5 would be better, if single, run 3". If you would run dual 3" it would loose a lot of low end. I would do a h pipe, it should add low end. Headers should give you extra power in all rpm ranges. Im not sure what flowmaster sounds better, but turbo tubes sound bad ass. Hope this helps.

Better reply fast, before Joe-fingers-on-acid gets here/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif. First: Get headers. 1&5/8" tubes with 2.5" collectors. You want some backpressure, otherwise a bit of the air & fuel charge will swoosh right through the cylinders at the camshafts overlap. See, after the first puff of smoke runs through the tube it´ll create a vacuum behind it - dragging the next one out. This is a good thing and helps the piston get rid of the exhaust gasses = more power. If possible stay dual all the way. Dunno about which muffler is better. Any free flowing one is good/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif. If you´re able to see right through it/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif, it´s a good one.

Yeah, Dual Exhaust is a requirement down here. I just hope I can plop down Andreas list of 1.5 this and 2.5 that and they do it right! LOL. I can't decide on the chrome Bowtie tips welded on or the Chrome 45 degree angled ones welded on. HELP!

IMHO The chevy tips look tacky on trucks.

Go with chrome smokestacks. Heh heh. Or some side pipes !

Smokestacks my @ss. and sidepipes? Heck No! I love the idea of a Chevy Tp, But I just can't decide. But I will tell you what gets on my nerves. All Kids at school have dual exhaust. And that is even the import guys too! Picture a Nissan Frontier with duals, A Tacoma with duals, and they all sound sick! IMHO that is. plus almost everyone elses. They sound like a Bumble Bee trapped in a damn coffee can.

Glass packs and 4 cyl's sound like $hit. My buddy had a 78 t-bird with a 400 and glass packs that car sounded MEAN! It could burn'em for 80 feet pullin out of my driveway. Turbo tubes are even less restrictive and louder.

I was kidding about sidepipes and stacks. You either would look like a Ford Cobra wannabe or a tiny semi. ^_^

I know a kid that drove a big @ss chevy and accidentially backed right over the hood of a honda. His insurance company didn't like that one too much.

Go with Flowmaster 40 series Delta Flow mufflers. They are the loudest series that Flowmaster makes without being a race muffler. You could get just a regular 40 series, but the Delta Flow technology helps them scavenge gasses better, which means more efficiency. I have one on my truck, I love it! Hope this helps.

EEEERRRKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!nothing like the sound of that Honda exhaust, nothing says power to me like the sound of 5,000 pissed of bumble bees in a coffee can.......EEERRRKKKKKK!!!!!!!(the noise I always seem to make before I vomit/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif)

All of the chevy tips I have seen have been relatively small. So I was thinkin, because they are smaller, doesnt it make it harder for the gasses to get outta your pipes, therefore takin away some horses, where as the big ol tips like the 4.5 inchers just give you more of a rumble, and dont disturb the gasses flow pattern.

I have a buddy who works at an exhaust/tune-up/brakes/ sorta place and he is the one who showed me the Bowtie tips when they came out. they have 2 sizes i think. But the Big 45 degre angled tip ones are big and 22 inches long. they look mean /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif and are huge in diameter. But i think i am going with a Rice Burner Turbo Bumble Bee Sport Muffler.

Re: Insurance ?

the three things insurance companies hate are:
teenagers
teen boys
and 4x4 trucks
thats why when i had my toyota i never told em it was a 4x4, they probably knew, but i never mention it. advice would be to not bring up that you lifted your truck with an insurance company

I have the big 4.5" tips on my truck and it sounds nice and low. Like a small thunder storm. I've seen the bow tie tips but I didn't know there were two sizes. The ones I saw looked a little to small and I'm afraid your truck would go...vrooooooom pop pop pop pop. A lot of the cowboys like that sh@!. When they go downtown and their pop guns echo off every frickin building.

Cherry bombs are like red glass packs. I've heard they don't have much restriction, if any. But the sound is like a cap gun. POP POP POP. If you use get a big tip to take the POP out.
I heard some cowboy at Mcdonalds one day saying he put them on and didn't weld the out going side (he did it himself?) Got em real hot and poured ice water in them so the fiber glass came out when he fired it up again. Crazy Stuff! Why not just put a straight pipe.

It's so the smog/noise police can check and make shure he has mufflers when they get pissed ^_^

Im gonna invent some nerf bars that are hollow and have mufflers inside so you can hook them up to your exhaust. They would get hot though........

Get some race car exhaust cutouts and weld them in behing the headers. The ones with the cable. Then on the backroads or the mudpit, you can open em up and gain some ponies ! /wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif
