NOT GOOD. The engine has stalled on me several times since this started. The only work done to it was an oil change and the O2 sensor was replaced. It's almost like it's getting too much fuel. The injectors are 3 months old. The plugs are about a year and a half old on a rebuilt motor. Intake was soaked clean. I use good fuel. I shoot out the intake once a year and I have a modified intake/filter system. Nothing seems to be leaking from the vaccuum lines. And this happens as it gets warmed up and in normal temp mode. IT has been cold here too....

Sounds like a slow steppermotor. I had the same problem and replaced it. Problem solved.

How much was this stepper motor? Is it in the intake or on the plenum itself, as there are several harness terminals, going in it? How long did it take to put in/on ?

Re: Engine wants to STALL when you tap gas from id

My xj is doing the same thing. It also "bucks"at a constant speed of 25mph. or so.Could the I.A.C be the cause of these two problems? It's an 89 w/5 speed and 4.0.I appologize if I'm "hijacking"you're post. Thanks

It was about 100 Euro's but parts are expensive over here. I guess you will pay half or less. 2 Smal torxbolts and one connector on the throttle body. It takes about 1 minute to replace (and maybe five to clean it). Fred may be right, but mine had gone to steppermotor heaven......

I think what folks are calling the stepper motor is called the I.A.C intake air controller and is located ion the side of the throttle body, and very easy to change with a torx driver (star shaped) or a phillips screw driver on some models. My '91 did the same thing, $75 to diag. and at the time 40ish bucks for the part. After that I just went ahead and replaced all the sensors that were obvious (130,000 miles at the time). Most sensors you can by at napa for a fraction of dealer price, but the I.A.C is a dealer part. I drove around looking like I was dropping the clutch for a week (somtimes stalling) til I fixed it.
