just lately my girlfriend's 2wd s-10 started vibrating (ok get your mind out of the gutter!!)... more noticeable on the highway but really bad while i have a the truck loaded. There is noticeable vib in park while i rev up the motor.
It seems to follow engine rpm as the road speed increases but it definitly follows road speed while coasting down.
any ideas? I've been told that it is possibly the torque converter .

try the simple things first. plugs, wires, rotor cap,???coil maybe??? not likely. if that dont work, move to the harmonic balancer(yes i have had one come apart). if not there look at the flywheel(broke a few of those also.if not there have tranny checked or pop the hood with a mechanics thesiscope and listen to the block for a bad wrist pin or broken piston(yep you guessed it, broke a piston or two.)well good luck hope this helps and hope your luck is better than mine.

By any chance does she have a sound system? Check the connections for the battery. Same thing happend to my blazer. It would shake and mis fire because the engine wasn't getting enough juice, eventhough the battery gauge said 14v. Just a thought.

While travelling down the road, get going up to a certain speed, maybe 55 or where ever it seems to get the worst, and then take your foot completely off the throttle and put the transmission in neutral. Does the vibration continue as it was before or slow down with engine speed?

Sounds to me like a tire out of balance, drive shaft out of balance or a bad u-joint. /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

Since it follows road speed when coasting down we can logically assume it's a part of the driveline that doesn't always follow engine speed. Drive shaft, etc... /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

Oops, I didn't catch the part about it doing that in park too. In that case, check the flexplate and torque converter actually basically the engine's entire rotating mass (external at least) and determine where you're out of balance. That will find the problem...

The engine electrical is all new (plugs, wires, rotor, cap).
Crawling around the other day and found the u-joint closest to the tranny a little loose but i did find that the tranny rear mount is shot.... would this cause the vibration?

the tranny mount could do it i guess, you should fix it anyway, see if it helps. have you checked if there any service bulitins the pertain to this?
