Engine Fire recovery

Hello, I have an 87 wrangler that suffered an engine fire this past summer. I'm not sure exactly what caused it, but I'm pretty sure some oil that leaked out from the valve cover (frickin' plastic...) vaporized, flashed, and then melted the insulation on the wiring harness. From there the harness must have shorted out and all hell broke loose. I just finished re-wiring the harness becuase it was outrageous to buy a new one. Now I'm wonderinf if the computer is going to need redoing. I'm also wondering if anyone has a complete engine harness from an 87 YJ. i'd also be interested in any of the vacuum lines ect that went along with it. Any other advice would be welcomed as well. I need this thing to get me to work nex summer

I'll comment only on the comptuer....in most cases a computer will survive an engine fire. A computer is fairly robost. Unless you get some pretty high voltage as an input, or using a computer sensor feed crossed into a high power drain, it will be fine. I would be surprised if it were damaged.

you should find out what caused the engin fire first......on a friends jeep the throttle body shaft was leaking fuel and a lot of it. and from what i understand, these carter carbs are really bad about that....oil flashing does not sound right, i think the flash point would be somewhere near 450 or 500 degres......better check the fuel system.

but if the fuel system was what flashed wouldn't it be completely trashed? As in explosion? The main point of destruction was in between the valve cover the the carb, and it kind of went out in decreasing amounts of carnage from there. So would puting the same carb back on be asking for more trouble? Not the *exact* same carb mind you, cuz the original was torched hard core in the fire, but I salvaged another carb from a similar jeep. Would carb upgrade be worth it?
