OK, here goes:
I'm having wiring problems in the steering column. One of the things that shuts the turn signals off when the steering wheel rotates fell out and got wedged in somewhere on a hot wire and caused a short - and some smoke. Afterwards when the turn signals are activated I get hazards and backup lights flashing. So, I replaced the whole turn signal mechanism and this STILL happens. So, I began disconnecting the turnsignals and the lights to trace the short back. It doesn't matter which one I unplug or even if they're all unplugged, the turn signals still act like hazards - only on the dash when the lights are unplugged (obviously). Any ideas where this little Gremlin could be? There are no burnt wires for the turn signals anywhere...
