Yesterday I replaced the passenger side view mirror. The case was cracked and the mirror busted. The motor in the old mirror still works. My question, can the motor be replaced without replacing the whole mirror if the new one ever decides to quit, or should I just throw away the old mirror? Thanks.

Hang on to it, you could probably figure out how to replace it if you needed to. My guess is that you could, saying that i've removed the glass/backing plate many times on the burb we had.

Well I busted out one of my mirrors while back and when I pulled it out it busted one of the clips holding the mirror plate to the screws that adjust the mirror. It also striped out the plastic gears and stuff. A new mirror assembly cost $80 but just a mirror insert is like $10-$15. So I got some silicon and I sat in the drivers seat and my dad filled the inside of the mirror with silicon and adjusted it to where I wanted it, then we taped it up till it dryed. Its still holding fine today!
