Has Ford done it again and totally changed the bolt pattern on the newer engines so they won't bolt to the older stuff? The old small block, big block bs?

My Dad decided to keep his Tracker so now I'm looking for a YJ to put on top of my front Dana 60 and 14 bolt. No, they weren't going into the Tracker, I was going to sell them! I'm looking for a clean 4cyl and want to swap a 302 into it. I have a Dana 300 that will work with the axle drop (86 Chevy axle). I want to go with the Ford 302 so I can divert the speed parts from what was going to be my Mustang project (already own some nice new aluminum heads, intake, and everything else required to squeeze some more hp and torque) into the Jeep. That and I've always liked the 302.

Thanks,

Bryan

The ford windsor motors(289,302,351)used the same bolt pattern from cradle to grave. A 302 from any year will bolt to almost any trans used by ford during the windsors production. The only difference comes from the autos that came behind big blocks and cleveland/modified/midland engines. The 460/429 uses one pattern, the F.E.(360,390,427,428) uses another, and the clevland(351),modified(351),midland(400) use yet another. You need to be more specific as to which trans you are concidering for me to give more info.
