Re: Diamond plate for XJ\'s ?

I'm already on that right now. I'm working with a bodyshop here in town that is going to cut me those out of diamond plate and add some for the back, using the old moulding as templates. I feel SURE you could spray paint it flat black prior to installation. As body shops are way cheaper to use than repair shops, (as low as $35 an hour) they can cut it and install it almost cheaper and cleaner than you could. If you're careful, you can get a 4'X8' sheet of the thin stuff for about $120. It DOES look good, if it's done right.
I don't know if it's going to really make it stronger than the rubber stuff, but it'll sure look good with my black Nerf bars and black Rock Crawlers.....

Re: Diamond plate for XJ\'s ?

I'm rebuilding my inner and outer rear fenders with that stuff, along with some 3/16th plate for a new rear cargo floor. This way I can get rid of the small rear fender wells to help fit the 35s and help with the weakness that came from cutting the rear fenders to fit TJ flares on my 89 2rd. Pluss I will gain about 2-3 more inches on the backside of the tire before it will hit the new fender, unlike the stock ones. I have of yet not decided to run the shinny or paint it the body color...I'll keep you all on the up and up as the project goes, looking to start mid Dec...andy
