Realizing they haven't yet released a model for the 8.25 rear- I 'm very interested in this puppy...but I've seen some vague rumors about it (not good) anybody here got the scoop on it? In the alternative- what is a good rear locker for a DD/light trail rig?

You mean besides an ARB? Detroit Locker is good, and almost indetructable with a 4.0L.
As for the E-Locker, AM General (GM) has been using them in the Hummers for years, both H1 and H2. Rumor has it, the new H3 (yeah, the nightmare continues) will have one in the rear. I'm waiting for them to build 'em for the Dana 70s and 80s, or the 70 at least. I've got a limited slip in the rear of my Dodge, and it works well. Just need a locker for the front.

Are you referring to the Eaton E-locker? I'll check that one out. The Electrac is made by the same folks that make the Detroit Lockers. I may end up going with the auto Detroit Locker. But I really like what I have read about the Electrac, it offers both limited slip and full lock. I'm not really thrilled with the ARB. I realize that it is a quality product BUT it is pricey and the air lines do not turn me on at all.

I totally agree on the Electrac. I know having the compressor and air lines everywhere is cool, buy I like the KISS principle in this case, and electric is simple.

Even better still... POWERTRAX has an automatic, limited-slip/ locker. It retails around $420.00 and according to their website and the January edition of Off-road mag, it installs in about an hour with simple hand tools. Best of all (unlike Eaton and Tractech) they have a unit for the 8.25 rear!!! This could be the ONE.

I enjoyed running a spool in front and a lockright in the rear but then again I had a 89 with disco axle so that is a mute point to your question, however I can speak from experience that the lockright is a quality piece and does disengage while turning nicely but with a slight click sound. The no slip from powertrax is suppose to be even quieter.

Thanks, gryphon. Nothing would suck more than to plunk down the bucks only to get a piece of crap. Looks like I will add another box to the pile. One of these days I'm actually gonna put this stuff on my xj.............

I contacted tractech via their website and inquired as to availability of the Electrac for the 8.25 rear. I received a response today from Scott Fray, aftermarket sales manager for tractech, and he states that all models of the electrac are being re-engineered to incorporate a "method of internal activation". My guess at what that means is that, of the folks out there runnin the electrac, a few have been less than happy with the way the wires are run from the rear housing. It appears they are vulnerable to damage, at least thats what the folks are saying over at POR.
In any event, Scott states that when this fix is completed- because of "many requests" they intend to introduce a model for the 8.25.

I like the idea of a wireless locker, except then we could get viruses on the computer and start locking up at random times etc...

actually, if I had a wires locker, I'm paranoid enough to put conduit around the wires to protect them from mud pokers and mice and such.

johnswann is right I have a Powertrax and I like it a lot and istallation only takes about an hour. There is nothing at all wrong with an ARB but it cost in the $700 neighbor hood and for that I got my Powertrac and aTtrue Track for the front.
