A quick glance at my old Willys resting out in the puckerbrush this evening got me thinking just how long the 'ol girl has been around. Its had a snowplow since new. (1960) I think it was in the early seventies it got its first Buick V-6. A homemade adapter fit it to the T98 tranny. How many of you remember when all the Jeeps running around had the original *Jackman* white spoke wheels with Formula Desert Dog tires? Some fella all the way out in Californy by the name of Vic Hickey used to send me catalogs filled with all kinds of off road goodies!

It must be great to have a relationship with your Jeep,(Willys), going on for 40 some odd years. I wish I had that kind of legacy. I have been into off roading in some form or another since 75 mostly on motorcycles and in Fords, but a Chevy and Dodge have been thrown in for variety on occasion. I know what you mean though about looking back and seeing the changes that have been made. I still remeber when I got my 1st monoshock bike (Honda Elsinore), it replaced my 250 Ossa Stiletto(with leather air filter covers, and stainless snaps), and my old RT1 Yamaha 360 which I laid down the shocks to accomodate some long travel(10") gas Gerrling shocks. Sorry to go off waxing philosohpical about the old days.
Anyways Grant,
Do you have any old retro photos of the old wheelin days. It would be great for us young-ens(40 years young, for me) to see what it was all about, just after the invention of the wheel(hehehe, just kiddin).
Post em if you got em, now that you have our nostalgic attention.

Keep the ol' girl running....My Cherokee XJ is working on it's second decade and has become a member of the family. Good Luck!!/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

When you think about it, not bad for a model line who started out making its body parts in a modified washing machine plant!/wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif

I have been looking for some jackman wheels, I had a set on my '67 V6 CJ-5, Lately I have been feeling some nostalgia and would love to have a set for my '70 CJ-6.
Remember when Bill Stroppe was building jeeps ? I always wanted to buy one of his factory dana 44 front ends that he had aquired from AMC. I got a stack of Four Wheeler magazines from the '70s in the attic, I'll have to give them a look see some time...

Geez, I wish I had some old pictures 'back then'. Especially the blizzard of '78. The thing ran straight out for 3 days pushing snow. I'm not the original owner, its just always been a local fixture. It's been in town since new. I've been collecting pieces for its ressurection, flanged axle d44 rear, disc brake d30 front, power steering box, better windshield frame, ect.... Just have to find the time to do it!

Hey, I had an old '71 RT Yamaha once, great bike. It had the compression release on the handlebar, you had to use it, otherwise it'd literally kick you over the handlebars.

I have fond memories of the '78 Scout II towing vehicles up a local hill during a snowstorm, made me feel proud to get the passenger vehicles out with a grader and sanding truck stuck at the bottom unable to make the hill.

We have jeeps from '47 to '97, spanning 50 years. While we're not that old, we're proud to have each and every one. This fall I'm going to try to hornswaggle a local guy out of his CJ-3A with original rear PTO box, boy wouldn't that be nice. We'll see how badly he wants to keep it.
