Dash knobs-how to get \'em off?

Talkin' my '81 CJ 7, guys. Wierd little question here. I bought a set of replacement dash knobs off of e-bay. They're machined aluminum with allen head set screws, so they shouldn't fall off and they shouldn't get cockeyed and they should work reliably.

Trouble is, it was easy to remove and replace all except three of the stock knobs and I have no idea how to get those three off. They are:

"Air"
"Defrost"
"Headlights" (I know how to get the control rod with knob out of the switch on this one; I don't know how to get the knob off the control rod)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Either you have a very low mileage vehicle or you have a defective set of knobs. They were all designed to fall off at about 25,000 miles.

There are two ways to get them off.
1) Pull out a Dremel, Wizard, etc. and the cut the boogers off.
2) Wait till it gets really cold and and the window is really foggy and it is really dark outside. Then one by one they will pop off, you don't even need to pull that hard.
If they still won't come off, paint the old ones silver so they match the new ones. Eventually they will pop off.

Ed's Right.
I Just upgraded my knobs. Cut the heat/defrost/air with a Dremel cut-off wheel. Just cut them off lenghtwise (Knob in 1/2) the knobs are all plastic and stuck on a metal rod. Do not cut the rod and take the knobs off in one-piece as you need the length of the rod. The Lights pull off, or you can cut them too, whatever.

A big thanks to all who responded. Interesting thing about this forum: the answers were not all the same. . .but they were all correct.

The new knobs are on.
