Would gears from a '66 CJ5 Dana 44 swap into an '86 CJ7 Dana 44?

The gears should swap over, but the carrier will not. This is because they were 19 spline in '66 (or maybe even 10 spline).

They should be 19 spline in '66 and they are 30 spline in '86, about a 100% difference in strength.
