dana 44 front YJ SOA ?\'s

I know a lot of people on this board have done this swap, but i am wondering since the tirod is on top of the knuckle on a wagoneer 44 and since the springs need to be moved 1/2" inwards for the YJ, what mods need to be done or can be done to keep the steering rod (draglink??) from hitting the springs? what have some of yall done to combat this problem short of spending $$$ for a steering over knuckle conversion?? thanks in advance.

Ive got my D44 from an 87 G.Wag,a few weeks ago and I have been dabbeling with it a little, Ive got it cleaned up and the ARB and 4.56 gears set up. I just started working on the steering, So most of my info has not been verified or purchased yet. I have 5 on 5 1/2 hubs, rotors, brakes, spindels and even the Knuckles from an 89 F150. From what I have been told I need to get a driver side knuckle from an 80s Chevy?????? because it has the flat surface milled on the top of the knuckle to accept an arm that quite a few people and companies are now manufacturing to raise the tie rod well above the springs, then the drag link ties into the tie rod. I dont know?? I havent had the time to get it all figured out, but I guess its not to pricey to get it all hammered out and its a very good set up when complete. Ill let you know more as I stumble through it. I have had my hands full the last couple of weeks with an ongoing axle wrap problem at the rear of my 89 YJ. I think Ive got the upper hand on it now though. I plan to concentrate on finishing the front axle and steering build up.

regretably that is what i have heard to, but you mean the passenger side needs to be a chevy knuckle right? because that is the side that the stuff connects to, and then wouldnt the drivers side alo need it too. oh well, i guess i am still looking for info. keep me posted.

you could talk to a machine shop.. and see how much a pair of custome risers would be.. i have seen this done.. and i have welded some up myself..its about a 3-4 inch spacer that goes on top of the knuckle.. drill out the kuckle so you can put some bolts thru it.. and run hiem joint ends.. or when i made one.. i boxed it around the knuckle.. and just drilled a tapered hole in the top for the tie rod ends.. the one that my friend and i made.. well it didnt look the prettiest.. but i survived the rubicon.. and it still drove staight on the ride back to LA.. and the one i seen made.. was milled out of aluminum.. looked cool.. the guy was taking out for the itinial test run.. so not sure how it did.. im sure it was good.. looked solid..
