I'm swapping in a 74 dana 44 into my 76 CJ. Out goes the AMC 20. Here's the question: can I use my good and working brake hardware on the new axle? (backing plates, wheel cyls, lines, cables, etc.) They look very similar. Thanks for your input.

you should be able to use them.. i am not too familiar with the drum brakes on those 44's.. but they should be able to.. check the drums.. if those are the same then i would say yes.. and if you go to get brake parts.. tell them they are for the cj rear.. parts are cheaper.. compared to what ever that 44 came out of..

The backing plates are drilled differently to fit the axel tubes. Keep the 44 backing plates and the 44 emergency brakes cables. The 76up cables have a different end that attaches to the backing plate. All else will work.
