You won't immediately notice any difference. But over time, it will start to screw up your emissions and gas mileage and affect your vehicle's ability to pass emissions tests.
Check with an independent mechanic for a price quote on replacements. You CAN do it yorself if you are careful. Pick up the HAYNES manual for your SUV.
