Howdy, I am usually found on the Jeep forums, and I was hoping you gents could help me out with a few tech questions.

I am interested in purchasing a Dakota, preferrably old body style but I could go for a new one up to '97. What are the tranny, axle, diffs, t-case, wheelbase, engine options? Im not concerned with aesthetics, Im looking for function. With that said, are there any years or drivetrain components to steer clear from? Do they have towing capability?

These are my major questions that I can base my decision on, and Id appreciate any feedback, both positive and negative. Also, are there sites out there that offer factory spec information to compare and contrast years?

Thanks much for the feedback.

Engines were either the 6 or 8 cylinder, the older ones had the 318 with very good power to weight ratio. Other options I don't know, I would check through a haynes dakota manual at a local autozone for the other things, unless someone else knows...

The TBI system is used on all 1989-95 2.5L engines, 1989-91 3.9L and 5.2L engines and 1989-92 5.9L engines.

The sequential Multi-port Fuel Injection (MFI) System was introduced on all 3.9L and 5.2L engine-equipped models in 1992. As of the 1993 model year, all gasoline powered engines except the 2.5L were so equipped. The 2.5L engine was MFI-equipped for the 1996 model year.
