CRF250X- Mom\'s Bike?????

OK guys I need some help here. I am a 36yrd old Mom who learned to ride a motorcycle at 32. For my 32nd birthday my hubby bought me an XR200. It has been a very good bike but it is time to get a REAL bike with REAL suspension, and of course, the magic button. The hubby just called and said I should consider the 230.(not a REAL bike in my book)His reasoning has something to do with the lack of oil capacity in the CRF250X. He said something like if I did buy the 250 I couldn't go on the slow kids rides anymore. From everything I have read about the new 250 that shouldn't be a problem. Give me something to fire back at him!! I REALLY WANT THIS BIKE???
Thanks,
Off Road Meg

While it is the first year for the bike and alot of times that can mean trouble because it isnt proven yet ..... It sounds like he may not want the competition from you

I'd say its either the Yamaha WR450 of the CRF250X

Re: CRF250X- Mom\'s Bike?????

I left this in another forum I use. I hope it helps you talk your husband into getting you the 250X, don't think you can go wrong. I had a 230 and yes you are right it is just a play bike for beginners. Well here is the post I left.
Hello all, just wanted to leave a ride update on the new 250x. Maybe it will help some who are thinking about buying it.
I am 6 foot, 180lbs...and the bike handles like a dream. I have had my bike about a month now and put about 200 miles on it. I have rode twice now at Draper lake in OKC. I will try and give you an idea on what it has felt like to me so far.
It has plenty of power stock for tight twisty trails and then some for the long dirt roads. My buddy has a XR250R and it won't even come close to keeping up with the CRF as far as power. Now I must admit that his seems to handle better in the really tight stuff, but I'm also new at riding so my lack of skill is sure a factor there. The CRF corners like it is on rails though. There are lots of switch backs that I would call wash boards....Lots of fun to ride up on the sides and then drop into the next turn. This is where I notice the biggest difference compared to the XR. The CRF just steers through these like it is on rails, and the XR makes it feel like your having to work harder. As for the power stock form, it seems like it has more than enough power but never to much to handle. It never feels out of control on the trails like some 2 strokes have rode. And talk about easy to ride!!! Man this is a bike that anyone can just jump on and ride. It just fits like a glove. As far as problems, I have had only one and that is my thumb is getting tired of hitting that magic button!!!! Gotta love it. I have had to tighten the spokes, adjust sag and adjust the chain. Mine was also hard to start at first so I adjusted the air/fuel mixture some. Now no problems starting, it starts great with the magic button or kick. Other than that this bike has been great so far. I let a buddy(170lbs) who has a CRF450R ride mine on a local MX track just to see how it would do on the jumps. ( I DO NOT MX !!! TO DARN OLD) He was hitting a large table top with it by the third lap and having no problem with the suspension or motor. He came back after 10 laps with this to say. "This bike is very easy to ride. Felt like it floated over all the small to medium hits and still took the big hits without bottoming out. Has plenty of power for a stock motor."

Well that is my observations so far. I am not a great rider, just your average joe out to have fun and maybe race in the SLOW OLD FART division. So I hope this helps anyone who is looking at buying the CRF250X. I paid $5900 out the door price. No tax or set up fees. I got mine at Neosho Power Sports in Neosho Missouri. I may have spelt the state wrong but you get the idea I am sure...lol Well good luck to all and ride safe, hope to see you on the trials some day...

It's a 4 stroke, you can ride it slow, with your kids, if you want to, and fast if you want to also. Honda has some pretty good engineers working for them, I'm not sure where the lower oil capacity issue falls into play, but I doubt you'll have a problem in that area. Get the bike, like woodsracer said, he would...., I know I would. Good luck.

Re: CRF250X- Mom\'s Bike?????

Well the Hubby has had a change of heart! On Friday he called me from Alba Action Sports in Poway and told me to come down with the truck and pick up my new bike!!!!
The bad part is that it is about 2 inches too tall for me. I am going to have some of the seat foam shaved off. On tuesday I am taking it to the guys at Precision Concepts and they claim they have a way to lower it w/out compromising the suspension.
I rode it down the street a couple times and it feels so light and agile. WAY MORE power than my old XR200!!!
I love it!! I have attached a picture!! It looks so modern and bitchin!!!! Nothing like the XR200
Foget about the picture part, it is too big to post here. I have no clue!
Thanks for your advice!!

Re: CRF250X- Mom\'s Bike?????

I had to make it small in order to be able to upload it from my computer to the website. I tried it when it was bigger and it didn't work. Can you give me any hints on how to do this. I took the picture with my digital camera.

What do expect from a woman who has been a housewife for ten years!!!

Here's an easy way to post the pic. Go to photobucket.com and you can post your stuff there free of charge. Then you just copy the link under the picture and when you're posting here you go down to the little image button that's in the instant UBB code box, push the button, and paste the link in the box that comes up. then your picture shows up like this without needing to open an attachment.

Easy peasy, Japaneasy.

No, I've never looked that good, I just like the pic. It's from a supermoto race and that part of the track was flooded, there's actually a road under there.
There is definitely no road under me....

Everything is great Steve, absolutely no complaints. Job is cool, house is cool, the riding should be cool, traffic sucks, but..., can't have everything! I was informed today by a co-worker that I have to get the correct glasses for the different types of beer I drink, I gotta work on that...

I'll get it...., just have to practice more!
