I just picked up a fairly clean 92 CR 500 from a good friend of mine. Motor has never been touched. Compression seems good, piston noise minimal etc. This thing vibrates so bad when I start it that the bike looks blury when you look at it! Anybody know what could cause this problem? I have owned others in the past & have never experienced this before? Some help here would be apprieciated!

Check the motor mounts first. Then if they check out remove the ignition cover and see if the crank bearings have any play. Just grip the flywheel. A little in n out play is ok but no up-down or side to side play is acceptable. Also have you ever ridden a cr500? From what i hear they vibrate like all hell. Another thing i just though of is if it has a flywheel weight that was not made right it could contribute to alot of vibration.

Thank you for the reply. Yes this is the 3rd one that I have owned & I have never experienced this before! I suspect there is something wrong with the crankshaft balance, but don't know why this would be? I guess I'll have to do a tear down & just find out!

1 More question, Does anybody know if it is possible to purchase a brand new motor from honda? If so any ideas on costs?
