Converting Waggy D44 from Vac Disco to \"Normal\"

OK, have a friend {hold the jokes, yeah I got a friend} looking to put late (87 - ish) Waggy axles under his YJ. This Waggy has a vacuum disconnect on the front diff. Planning to change the carrier anyway, so what else needs to be changed other than the cover, to make this thing a conventional style diff?

I have found a couple articles which suggest this diff might use C-Clips in the front. Not sure if this is true and how specific it is to years. But again if we are changing the carrier would this matter much other than needing either different year or aftermarket axle shafts?

BTW, I did a search plus I posted this question over on the FS board, but that board doesn't seem too active. (Only about 30 posts in the last 3 months)

Thanks for any info,

The custom axle shaft route would work. Just provide the length of shaft needed and the distance to the seal since it is probably a little farther from the diff than a regular housing. Then you could ditch the shift fork and collar.

In reply to:

I don't think you would need custom shafts. If anything the shafts from a non-vacuum axle should work.

As long as the seal location is the same distance from the diff. Some shafts neck down after the seal and if the disconnect housing puts the seal a couple inches farther out then the non-disconnect shaft will be a smaller diameter than the seal.
