Hey, everyone. I've decided that I want to get a (used) yz250, and I don't have a hell of a lot of cash for it. I've been searching the buy & sell for some bikes, and I came up with two promising ads. I was wondering whether any of you could give me some advice on them. Here are the ads:

97 YAMAHA YZ250, Renthal bars, gd cond $3600 obo.
92 YZ250 runs grt $2700 obo.

I know, there's not much to the ads, but maybe you can let me know something about the model years vs. the price (canadian dollars,) or something. I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

Oh, by the way, I was wondering... My friend is buying a Suzuki DR300 but it has a decompressor on it. Does a bike that size really need a decompressor? It's even harder to start that way, in my opinion. Anyways, thanks.

Use the money you have for a down paymet an a new one. The monthly payment ofter about 2500 would'nt be much at all. Because you would also have a warrante. I hate used anything.

It was like that before you let me ride it...really.

If you can afford it, buy the newer bike. I have a 96 that was never ridden and is completely stock. I paid $3050 (USA). The thing rips over all the older bikes I have ridden. I used to ride an 87 CR125 with every mod, but it was crap compared to the newer bikes. (don't flame me the bike was awesome in it's day/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif). Bring cash and walk away with a great bike. Look at both and you will buy the 97. The 92 will look like an antique.

My friend had a compression release on his XR250. I never used it, but he only weight 120lbs, so he did when it was cold.

I'd go for the '97. Take cash, and take it home. 600 bucks is what you might have to do to the '92 to make it perform close to a newer bike. Why not get something that is better from the get go. Then all the mods make it that much better.

Thanks for replying everyone... I think I'll either look at this '97, or save up some cash to put a down payment on a new one. The only thing that turns me off getting a new one is that I'm not a hardcore rider or anything... I don't race, just ride trails (challanging ones, however,) on the weekends. I mean, I ride a '79 mx100 right now, haha!

Just remember that if you buy a new ride , you'll still be buying tires , brakes , chains and sprockets , and all that stuff ads up...

Aw , quit your whining...If you want an easy ride, then buy a street bike and stick to the pavement! Otherwise , grasp the reality that if the trails were easy ones , you'd call it a pussy ride!!

I'm no pro mxer or anything, but I still bought a new ride this year just for playing around the coal mine. It's nice to have the best available, if you can handle the payments and the insurance. Lots of buys around here buy new just because it's practically cheaper than buying a older bike and having to redo everything, put on mods and still not know if the thing was trashed before they got it.

Got a 92 myself great bike. But don't pay a dime over 1500$. Any more than that and it ain't worth it. If you want to spend more deffinitely go for the newer model.
The down payment idea is a good option also. New is new ya know. Good Luck!!

Crash? So what, plastic is semi-cheap. I actually kinda worried about it too, but the improvements in the suspension and ergos alone make me stay on the bike way more than I stay on my old one.
