confusing wiper problem

On my 1994 Suburban the windsheild wipers have been doing a strange thing. Sometimes they work just fine while other times they don't work at all. The funny thing is if I get on the gas hard with the wiper switch on they will start to work and continue to work. This has just started to happen in the last week and I'm traveling cross country with it next wednesday and would like to make sure that they work if I need them. Anyone have a clue what it is? Thanks.

On my 94 the wipers work sometimes and sometimes they don't. When they don't I just turn them on, reach around and give them a little nudge and they work fine./wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif Maybe one of these days I'll replace the motor.

Re: Chevy has a recall on wiper motors !

Big Burb thanks for that info. I was wandering if it was a problem with a bunch of vehicles. Now all I have to do is get it fixed. Do you know how long it takes to get fixed? Thanks.

I know what you are talking about. My 1995 1/2 ton was doing the same. For a while just a push on the blades would get it going, but then it got worse where I had to bang on the motor with a screwdriver handle. The day it snowed 10 inches here in Colorado and I really needed them they would not work even with the banging. I got mad and bashed it on the black plastic cover and actually cracked it. They started working and have been working strong ever since. However, now that I know about the recall and the free fix they probably will hit me for the cost of the plastic piece!! Oh well, lesson learned.

Unplug the connector, take the 3 screws off of your old wiper motor and pull the black cover off. What you have in your hand is what you need. My dealer said they go out a lot. In fact, he had over 70 of them in the parts dept! I think it was called a wiper actuator or something like that. It was about $60 and comes with the black cover/part thing, the new gasket, and 3 new screws.

My wipers were doing the same on my 92,I replaced the motor and 6 months later it started again,I was told by the parts guy that it was the brain and not the motor, replaced the brain and it has worked for over a year!! Eric.S
