Compatability of 90\'s TF999 and Dana 300?

I am getting ready to swap a 4.0L into my scrambler. I currently have a 258/TF904/Dana 300 combo. I was thinking I would take the TF999 out of the donor vehicle (1991-1995 XJ) along with the 4.0L.

I know they put the TF999 in CJ's in front of Dana 300 during the early 1980's. But, will TF999's that are in front of 1990's XJ t-cases (NP231?) bolt up to my Dana 300?

Also, what other autos were commonly used in 1990's XJ's?

--------------------------------------------
More research on my part shows that the AW4 is most likely in 1990's XJ's. So, will the AW4 bolt up to my Dana 300?

I am thinking about doing the same thing. I have access to a 90 XJ and was thinking about taking the motor and tranny out and putting it in my CJ using my D300. If it will bolt up to the XJ's tranny that would be great. Let me know what you come up with.

I believe the AW4 has a 21 spline output. You'll need a tranny with a 23 spline output. You can use your 999 (what you should have in a 258 CJ-8), but you'll have to modify the bell to accept the crank position sensor. There is a write up on an SM420 swap here, but it also details the CPS mod.

Otherwise, find an auto from a YJ with a 4.0
