Commando gas tank questions

Ok, so last night I decided to take the stock gas tank out of the 72, since I'll be putting my Aero tank in there...first of all, do all Commandos have that skid plate? Should my Jeepster have had one, or is that yet another way that the Commandos are superior?
Also, what are all the lines running ott the top of the passenger side up into that little box? Can I just cut them, or are they important enough to try to save?
just wondering...

The skid plate was not stock on a Jeepster (though I can't guarantee that it wasn't an option). As far as the lines, they are running up to the charcoal cannister. I am guessing that you will not need them when you hook up the new tank (their function has to do with emission control I believe).

Richard,

The skid plate did come on some Commandos. I don't know if it was the factory or the dealer that put it on. I had one on my Deluxe 72 but my deluxe 73 doesn't have one. Dennis confirmed, for me, that they did come on some Commandos.

Those lines are normal. Mine leaked all over the place whenever I topped off my Commando tank so I cut and plugged them.

don't worry, the pile of parts is growing daily, and I'm planning on bringing everything I can... the tank looks to be in pretty good shape also. I'm hoping to drop it this evening, and that'll be everything except the engine, tranny, and tcase...of course, I still have to get to the rear ujoint of the front driveshaft to take it off first...hoping to get all that pulled this weekend.
