I went through the basemnt the other day and found not two not four but eight coil springs from XJ's and TJ's. Does any one know what their spring rates are compared to sidekicks and how practical it would be to try to stick these things under a sammi. I am thinking they are way to stiff for a sammi and would not allow for flex....any input is good.

there is a coil kit for sammis, I forget who makes it and if they use tj springs. I do remember that it is around 800$ for the rear only and that didnt come with coils. what is an xj? Hey will you keep your eye out for yj springs, yj's are the jeep with square headlights. Im looking to go that route after seeing chris's page. I asked him and he said it flexes just as good as his 1/4 elliptical system, and if it gets that good of articulation im all about trying it. Do you know if these coils are stock tj coils or are some lifted? What else is in that basement? sounds like a cool place. Max

an XJ is a cherokee, hey have you heard about the road handling on the yj springs, I think it would be great but I need a roadable suspension, or I can't get to class.I have a spoa right now and love it but I could use better as we all eventually find out!

Driving off-road needs to be done well, like throwing a fly at a rising trout in dark, calm waters. Take pride in the task, and the reward is more than the destination.

I heard that the yj springs make for hard handeling. I am not using this as a daily driver, but i will investigate the use of a panhard bar and something to stop s-wrap on the rear, torsion bars or something of the sort. Any set up with M/L is a little worse then a regular spoa, but like all things, you adjust and adapt to make it work for you.

XJ's have coil fronts, leaf rears. TJ coils are designed to work with a vehicle that weighs in excess of 3,200 pounds, so my guess is they'd be a little stiff. How much you want for them though, the wife has a TJ and we might use the coils later on when hers sag. Are they off a 4 cyl or 6 cyl and are they designed for use with the hard top?

The YJ's have a set of swaybars front and rear, so this would be a good place to start for stability. Incidentally, the TJ is very stable with the swaybars connected. With the front disconnected, it has noticeable body roll, but is still controllable. With the rear disconnected it's a death trap over 10 mph, completely unpredictable and impossible to drive. Ramp travel numbers for a 23 degree ramp are: 330 stock, 490 front disconnected, 495 front and rear disconnected, so the rear actually does little for travel.

In my basement? Hummmm 6 front coils for 87/91 Cherokees and a set of Springs front n back for a 99 Wranger. I also have a set of four control arms of the wrangler and i think about twelve shocks for the above vehicles. I also have a York compressor from an AC system that will go on the sam when it get running (maby this year) ........ say I am in Ronaoke, VA and I found a guy that wants to junk a late model Checker Bus that has a centered D44 in it. If you come and get it i bet you can pick it up for $20(bolt patter semms real close looking at it too). man I wish I had discovered this board before I gave most of my old jeep stuff away.....

If you want any of this stuff mail me and we'll hook up.

Hey, whats a 99 wrangler? I thought that was a tj in 99 and it was on coils. If its a yj then they ended in 97?? and it is the square one, if that is so then I would like to buy those front springs from you. Can you take the measurements for me on the front ones? I am really looking for a set. thanks, Max.

a TJ is still a Wrangler, in fact, it is better known as a Wrangler then a TJ, except to guys like us. A friend at work owned one since '97 and when I called it a TJ he said " no, I have a Wrangler!"

The '99 is a TJ Wrangler. TJ is the two letter designation code for a Wrangler, as was the YJ, just different years. Kinda like a CJ-8 is a Scrambler, and a Scrambler is a CJ-8.

The YJ's (Wranglers), ended production in 1995, and the TJ's (Wranglers again) started production in 1997, so technically there is no 1996 Wrangler. Jeep held the YJ's late and started the TJ's early (we ordered ours in early May 1996).

I'm interested in the coils for the TJ, arms, and shocks. I'll send you an e-mail and maybe we can strike a deal.

I tell you...you guys are so elequent on describing J@@ps....that '99 that my buddy has is a pain the the @#$%...Busted the read diff twice front axle once. had a rear axle side out on us(D35c clip). rebuilt the tranny once x-fer fixed twice and engine mounts twice. radiator once (i think) and had three out of four wheels fall of it at one time or another(oah god, when the front one wnt once it took the whole dang knuckle assemble with it!)

But none the less i have come to the conclusion that Jeep coils should stay under jeeps:) Leafs are good though.

Yeah, once I saw the picture in the daylight and tried it out, I think I might have it solved. Have not however taken it off road since. Fixed the weber to where its drivable and swapped off the 33" tires for 31s which made most of the difference in driving. Did other things to it too, but now it runs hot on the freeway after 20 minutes at night and it has some weird stopage, where it just dies then wont restart without it sounding like a dead battery. I dont know what it is, I just need to swap the altenator out and worrie about it later. I have to much going on with work, and I want to sell a couple of vehicles to slim out the burden. One sammi (that special edition sitting at Glenns house) the 90 toyota pu 4x4, and one of my audi's. Then im driving one of my audi's across the u.s. this spring and probably purchasing a new one with Heidi next febuary or whenever they do the close outs. Its either the new all road or a tt coupe hard top, cant make up our minds yet. I like the all road and she likes the tt. We have a station wagon and a coupe already so its still a toss up on which way to go. I also want to chop up the parts rig into a trailer sort of like Tims this winter to make a little more room. Most likely that wont happen till spring though too. anyway...........

Look what I found tonight and I'm buyin' it too!!!!

"I've got an 87 sammy that i want to sell! I'm looking for around $200Cnd. I've replaced the rad, starter, battery, alt, fresh tune up (incl. plugs, cap/rot., wires), belt, fresh oil job....but as per usual with the sammy the body is going...and will need some attention in the next few months...but it runs very well, and always starts. I've also installed an alarm (microwave for when the tops off) and a kill switch. The interior is very clean. It even has a descent stero that you can hear at hyway"

God I love when that happens to ME!!!!
