i came across some aluminum rims for my wrangler really cheap. good shape, but badly oxidized, especially near the center, and around where the lug nuts go. They are almost black in these areas, as well as almost black on the backside. I've heard snow bowl ( toilet bowl cleaner ) works good. Anybody got anything they have used that works for getting rid of the oxidation?

2 things work very well.
1. If the wheels are clearcoated, go to your home improvement store and get "TUFF JOB AIRCRAFT STRIPPER." Wear gloves, mask, goggles...this stuff is nasty. Apply liberally, and rub off with steel wool. Works great--strips wheels bare.
2. If not clearcoated, or after stripping clearcoating (for maintainence cleaning), go to a truck stop, and buy a gallon or two of acid. You spray it on aluminum, let it sit for a few minutes, and then pressure-wash or scrub it off. It brightens and cleans the aluminum. If you use it too often, it'll kinda whiten the aluminum and take away the 'shine.'

I Jeep, therefore I am.

Flat finish - Eagle 1 aluminum wheel cleaner (spray)

Polished finish - Mother's aluminum polish (paste)

Not sure those are the exact names, but it will get you there.

I've replaced so many parts that my old Jeep has become my new Jeep.
