Hey Mike, I'm looking foward to seeing that Orange CJ scoot about the Cities. Did the tub you purchased have the cut-out for the tailgate or did you cut and reinforce? I miss the Jeep logo on the back of the 4WD glass body!

I like the Orange . So Mike , honestly , hard much BS was it doing your own paint ? Right now I`m looking at spending the money and buying the good gun and doing my CJ5 myself . Did you guys use a booth or taped up garage or what ? How well did the paint lay down and how far did you guys have the gun from the surface of the Jeep while spraying ? I`m curious to hear your feedback . Thanks . I really DONT want to have to pay someone else $ 1500 to 2000 to paint my Jeep . Think of all the tools I could buy with that /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

cannis: As far as I'm concerned, a "Frame Off" is the easiest way to go. It just costs alot more than you (or I) would think in the beginning. I got pretty caught up in replacing everything that looked "marginal". If you have the time and room to work on it all laid out (I've got a BIIIIIG garage) it's the only way to make sure you've fixed everything.
LEVE: I bought the tub with the tailgate cutout. I was going to get a 'glass tailgate as well but I just couldn't give up the "Jeep" embossed on my steel one, so I fixed it up.
Jeepzilla: The paint was not too hard. I went with the paint shop's (our local Bumper to Bumper) recomendation on type of paint. I originally wanted a 2001 Jeep color called "Amber Fire Pearlcoat" but it was a two step (base coat/clear coat) and cost $90 a quart for the color only! Then I had to buy clear to go over it. That's when I chose a more afordable ($165/gallon) color. We just hung plastic from the rafters and across the celing in the garage. My floor will never be the same though/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif. The paint laid down very well and we had only one small run (had to have ONE) on the side of the tub, but it will wet sand and buff out fine. I just bought a cheaper suction feed gun from Menards ($40) and a 110v 27 gallon compressor. We had the gun 8" to 10" from the surface, with the paint pattern as tall as it would go on the gun. 2.5 turns out on the paint knob, and 60psi at the compressor. It was about 75 degrees and pretty dry out. It worked out very nice and I'd do it again. With a total investment (Paint and tools) of under $800, it is definately worth a try. And I get to KEEP the compressor and gun! The $2500 estimates that I got seemed outrageous seeing as how it was all apart and I didn't want them to put it together...just paint it.
