For years, AMC believed they were losing too many sales to the Ford Bronco and International Scout by not having a half-top model available. Three CJ7½ concept vehicles were built by AMC in 1980 to test the public's reaction to a half-top Jeep. The overwhelming comment was that the bed was too short so it was lengthened and resulted in the production of the CJ8 Scrambler. The three concept vehicles were meant solely for car shows, but one escaped when a lot driver accidentally loaded it onto a rail car and it got to a dealer. Of the other two, one was destroyed the following year and the other remained at the plant until it was finally destroyed when Chrysler bought out the Jeep line. I thought you would like to see the only remaining example in existence.
