CJ mirror on Driver\'s side

I need a soultion for my left mirror. My mirror on my 76 is mounted on the windshield bracket the wind blows the whole thing out of position. The real problem is that the ball pivot for the back of the mirror is worn and it flops around. Any help would be great!

you can either go to a junk yard and pick one up for about $15 or you can order a set from 4wd hardware not sure on the cost. I got the junk yard mirror for my passanger side b/c it came with the tiny mirror and I think that the same mirror on both sides looks better anyway.

Warning, if you buy new mirrors, stainless steel in particular, do not buy them from Steele Horse. I don't know if it was just a random flaw in manufacturing or design, but my stainless, Steele Horse mirrors fatigued from the wind!! They broke and fell off while doing about 60 back from the Jersey Shore, boy did that piss me off. I ordered some from Olympic(if I remember correctly), I have not had a problem with these, yet!! They also seam to be sturdier then the Steele Horse conterparts. If you need help finding some, I can help with that too.

Good luck,

I agree... steel horse is crud. I ended up cutting up a tennis ball to fit around the arm and help stop the mirror from shaking, so I could see ANYTHING out the reaview at 70....

Olympic, eh? What about Kentrol?

Give me a day, and i will see what i can find out about Kentrol. I am at school now, but i still work for an auto parts chain in Jersey, so I will see if the customers have any response to Kentrol products, then i will reply to this post.

first check the back to see if there are screws around the ball that can be tightened. i smashed one of mine a year and a half ago and ordered one from jc whitney. the mirror itself works just fine. my whole arm pivots back bacause of the plastic arm bushings. i can't tighten them down enough without cracking them. my solution to that is to get some billet bushings from 4wd hardware.

After looking in the 4wd hardware catalog I saw that you can buy just the bushings, maybe that's all you need

How about adjusting it right for yourself and epoxy glueing it in position at the ball. You could still swing it out of the way at the inner aspect of the arm.
