What's worked for my front bumper is two flat uprights of 3/16" plate. Then there is another section of square tubing coming at the top to join the two uprights. Though not strictly a "hoop" it give plenty of protection to the winch and the grill area as well as nice place to hang a couple of two hooks or additional lights.

Attached should be a pic of my front CJ hoop. It measures 49.5 wide just below the horizontal bar and 50.5 wide just above the floor plates. These are the inside dimensions it is 2" tube so add 4" for overall width. The main uprights bend away from the dash 24" up from the floor plates. I don't remember exactly which model I ordered but I can look through my receipts later. I am about to leave so I will check back this evening. Hard doors won't fit with my current setup, but there are 4-5 different hoop options.

That is the measurement I gave you. If you look in my picture there is a horizontal bar just above the steering column. That is the bar I am referencing in my previous post. So the measurements are 49.5 and 53.5. When I welded in the horizontal bar I actually spread the hoop's legs by 1-2 inches. I found out that the bar kits are really just a starting point and there is quite a bit of room for fabrication and customization. I think the main differences in the Smitty kits have to do with the length of the legs and whether or not they bend away from the dash.
