choosing 4x4

Guys, please, help me out here, Pajero or Land Cruiser? Which one is more reliable and cheaper on maintenance(heard that Pajero has timing belt). It is gonna be petrol, made in 92-98. It is gonna be used fair bit off road (not hard core) but also on road. Pajeros are a bit cheaper, but I can see in adds, that many of them have repaired engine, what worries me a bit, don't want to end up changing engine or have major failure. Which one behaves better off road? I thing Land Cruiser is a bit more spacious too, don't you think? need to carry 7 people.
