/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif Now, now.....there is always going to be someone who thinks that they are somehow persecuted, and that's part of being human. Personally, I am against the Napster style of copyright theft, but if you post to someone's site like this one, well, then YOU are fair game. Too bad for him./wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

The point is the top of his head!

Who cares if someone says they own the words that we post here on this forum?

To me, these words just go away after a week or so. What possible negative outcome could possibly arise by someone saying they own these words?

So read the TOS and dont sign up for MSN hot mail. Everyone still has a choice last time I checked.

This is a perfect example of certain people trying to create hysteria for the benifit of their own egos.
Makes me want to slap the taste out of their mouths.

Whew!

I have bigger things to worry about like where I am going to get the money for a new front end.

Well..alright you invent a whole bunch of stuff..say our tech section for the bbs. They sell them to a magazine..and get money. The magazine says..thanks to offroad.com.Or say you make a new device out of tinfoil and rubber bands that is a new in cab controlled locker. You tell everyone on the mail thing..then orc wants to claim it.Well heck its their idea now.I mean they said it.If they want to suppress the idea for a while..you can't tell anyone cause its their copyright. They then sell the locker kits for 700 a piece.Blah blah blah..I dont know if it would work that way but thats how I understand what that guy is saying

simple, writeit down and mail it to yourself before you post it, remembering not to open it when you receive it. Then when they try to sell it as theirs, you can prove that it was your idea first by the canceled envelope! Poor man's copyright!

One of the first things I learned as an history major was that if you don't want someone else to know something, then don't write it down. My favorite are letters that end with "burn this"...obviously they didn't!

Point is...a copyrighted text is hard to prosecute. It only takes a creative editor to change a text enough to avoid textual copyright. I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree with Fritz. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I thought the reason you posted your ideas on here was for other Jeepers to use and benefit from it anyway! We "steal" each other's ideas as our own daily. If I had to reimburse the authors of the ideas that I have used in my Jeep, I might as well buy a Range Rover - I'd save money. If you really want to make money on your ideas, then make the actual kit to do the upgrade or whatever for sale and then patent it if you are that concerned about it. You aren't going to make much off a magazine article or royalties anyway . . . and once you sell your story to the mag - it becomes their property. All you get is your name in print. I can see our new signatures though:

Re: ason

You said it right there in your 3rd sentence: "...for other Jeepers to use and benefit from..." - not for a corporation to sieze and control. Technically, they could sue me for quoting you just then! And the point was well made about them claiming ownership of our ideas - I know something about intellectual property law, and it's powerful legislation. If you allow them to claim ownership of your ideas (and everyone else's), they can profit from those ideas without compensating the true authors. When we (I, at least) post, we intend for others to use the info freely. If anyone is making money off my ideas, I want some of that profit if not all. And if you say you (or I) aren't posting anything of value, then there's no reason for them to claim it anyway. Instead of putting a "copyright" statement in your signature, put a "public domain" statement in there!/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

Re: ason

I looked at that link and couldn't find where ORC claimed ownership of the thoughts, etc... Now I did have to sign a waiver giving ORC ownership of the monthly columns I write, however I don't believe they can actually claim rights to anything anybody posts unless such a waiver is signed and on file with them, or some other agreement is reached. I believe that if they ever had a hope of making something like that site claimed enforcable they would have to prominently display such a statement as "All posts, and information distributed on this service is sole property of ORC" or some other such thing. /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif Just my $0.02 worth... /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

Most information here on the forum, although very helpful, isn't revolutionary and I realistically don’t think anyone is going to make their fortune from something they say here, although anything is possible I guess.

Hell a couple of guys already ripped off the TR upgrade and are selling it currently and I doubt they will get rich from it. ORC didn’t snatch up that idea or any of the articles that were written.

I don't think we are in any danger of getting sued or infringed upon like that bonehead would have you believe. He simply violated ORC rules by redistributing ORC property and was reprimanded for it.

I don’t know about you’z guys but I would love to have ORC take something I wrote and make a big deal out of it. It would be good for the ego.

Well there are some good products on here.Such as Doug's Cbrack. They could theoretically(as I understand this)take his idea and start making them if he hadn't gotten a copyright yet.Now I don't think you would be too excited if they took claim to your idea and wrote it as theirs...If they didn't even mention you.Now I'm sure they wouldn't do it..but wouldn't they have the power?

I agree with Joey, how many times do you brains put your inventions here or any other bbs or email... They own it, it's not your idea... the point is, this [censored] is not necessary and it's violating everybody's intellectual property, we like to see the internet as freedom, not a big bull**** copyright machine... they are ways to laugh at you if you ever need it, I don't think ignoring the problem helps, but bringing ORC down isn't one either...

A Jeep is a Jeep..

Well, here's a thought... If they own your ideas, then you could say whatever you wanted and if a suit developed, or you felt that someone said something worth sueing over, then its them who would be at fault! Have you ever noticed that NPR constantly has disclaimers that the things said are not necessarily the feelings of the station? Same idea only backwards...ORC is saying that the things said ARE the feelings of the server (station)!

So have fun guys and remember, if this is true, we could have some serious fun!

The interesting thing to me is that I have experienced nothing on the ORC site to justify any of this discussion.

This guy is the first I have ever heard of that is claiming to have this kind of problem on this site. He emailed me today to say that I am full of crap and sooner or later ORC will screw everybody.

This guy has a bad taste in his mouth and is spreading BS to make himself feel better or superior in some twisted way.

Damn that bothers me!!
