I recently starting getting a chattering noise from the left front tire of my '77 CJ-7. It is random with no specific situation I can tell that causes it. I checked the lug nuts, brakes, suspension and steering components and found nothing amiss. I recently repacked the wheel bearings and tightened the lock nuts to spec. There is no play at the king pins and the wheel/tire seem to be on there solid. I thought it might be brake chatter but it makes the noise even when the brakes are fully applied. I removed the front brake caliper put some stick on backing pads on the outer brake pad but the noise continues. Any ideas or other things I can check. It doesn't seem to have any adverse affects at the moment it's just annoying. TIA,

Hmmm,
just a thought, (happened to me)
if you have your factory wheels with the "center caps", the 3 screws that hold them tight from the inside can come loose.

I've heard speedometer cables make some pretty fuuny noises also
