Maybe I'm completely off base here, but when you hook all four wires on junper cables up and let it sit, does the dead battery charge itself at all? My batt is pretty dead and jumping it won't even turn the starter, so if I just leave the donor car running for a while, will the Jeep get any juice stored up?

Thanks,

Sean

here is a little trick i use.. start up the donor car, loosen the terminals, pull the donor battery, put the donor battery in you rig, start you rig, let idle for a min. or so,pull the donor battery out and swap in your battery all while leaving your rig on. and let it charge itself now, then replace the donor battery and let both charge for a couple of mins. and your off. i dunno it might be bad or might not but it saved me a couple of times when i had no cables. now....

make sure that you have a good set of cables (nice low guage, mine are 0 guage), make sure that you have a good connection on the terminals, start the working vehicle, let it idle for a second, run the RPM's up to about 2500 and hold it for a minute or so, then while keeping the RPM's up start the dead one (alternator puts out more amps at rpm's than at idle and this can help overcome the starter drag). and the answer is yes, it will charge the dead battery.

But then again if the battery is dead dead or it is real cold outside then there is an insert to all of the above.

"Edit" while you smoke a cigarette, read a chapter of a good book, take that well earned dump, clip your finger nails, change the oil in another sled, have lunch, or just doze off for a few. "End Edit"

then while keeping the RPM's up start the dead one (alternator puts out more amps at rpm's than at idle and this can help overcome the starter drag). and the answer is yes, it will charge the dead battery "Edit" If it will take a charge "End Edit"

Good Luck

It is not a good idea to do this on a newer vehicle. It may not be good for the computer.
