I want to change my gear ratio from 2.73 to 3.54 and I know a guy that will sell me his gears out of his 76 cj model 30 and model 20 axles to exchange into mine. Do I need all of the parts inside the pumpkin or do I just need the ring and pinion? Also, is there anything I ahould look for to make sure they are still in good shape? Thanks

Your carriers will work with these gears, so all you should need would be the ring and pinion sets for each axle. Look at the overall condition of the gears. Look for broken teeth or abnormal wear.

I want to keep my wide track axles and put the 3.54 gears in mine. What is the carrier? Is it the whole round thing (pumpkin)? RocknCJ... do you have 3.54's for my front and rear? If so, I might be interested... Thanks

The carrier is the part inside the pumpkin that houses the side gears and spider gears. Basically its the differential itself. Mine is a Trac-loc OEM posi unit. Not a true locker, but a definite improvement over an open diff. I have the gears for the rear axle only as the front carrier and gears were slightly damaged as they were grenaded on axle hill. If you chose to upgrade to a locker at a later time, this would give you a good R/P to transfer over. If your interested. email me.
