Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

My truck has Front Disc Brakes and Rear Drums.

I'm trying to talk my wife into letting do the 12 months same as cash at a local 4x4 shop
Image
If she lets me, then i'm probably going to do...

Lockers on the rear, 4.56 gearing, 15 x 10 wheels, and 35 x 12.5(or 14.5) tires. Either Pro Comp or Super Swamper. Maybe Pro Comp, just because of price.

I would like to do 15 x 10, instead of 16 x 10, just because of price, it's seems to be a lot cheaper. Just not sure if my truck can use 15", it comes stock with 16x7. I've heard people mention something about problems with brakes, but need to have someone confirm whether I can or not. Hopefully someone who is running 15's on their Dodge Ram

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

I see lots of 1500 Rams running 15" wheels. I don't think you will have a problem but any good shop should let you test fit a wheel and tire before buying just to make sure.

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

Yep. The 2002+ Ram 1500s, with the Inferior Front Suspension, can't run 15's because of the size of their brakes. I'm not even sure if you can run 16's on them.
Image
Some of the, I beleive, 00-01 Ram's have rear disc brakes which are too big for 15" rims as well, so on them you have to run 16" rims or bigger. Your truck is fine. Only problems are since they are a wider rim the tire will stick out and in a bit more, and have the potential to rub easier. Stick with a 3.5"+ backspacing and you should be okay.

I saw a Ram the other day that was either stock or only very slightly lifted, with what I think were 33x12.5's on it. Only thing was the guy had it on rims that were very wide, they might not have even been 15x10's, maybe 15x12's, and the backspacing looked like 3". Half the tread was sticking out from the fenders. Looked just slightly homosexual.

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

Looks like the backspacing is actually 2.75", since it's 5 on 5.5 lugs.

Just a final check, do ya think 15 x 10 with 2.75" backspacing is fine for my 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with front discs and rear drums?

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

Stock backspacing is 5". I run 305/70R16's with no lift on 16x8's with 4.5" of backspacing. 3.75" of backspacing looks alright but the wheels stick WAY out of the wheel well. I'd stick more along the lines of 4" or 4.5". And I personally wouldn't go with 15x10's on a 12.50" tire. 15x8's should work fine.

I would think a 15x10 with the backspacing your talking about would rub like crazy on the fenders while turning as well.

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

Problem is, if you ever want to run a wider tire than 12.5, not sure you can do it on a 15 x 8, i think you would need a 15 x 10 for that. I would consider in the future, going to a 14.5 wide tire, so that rim could handle it.

I'm going to try and stick with 3.75" backspacing. Getting to 4" would probably require a 16" rim instead and the tires are more expensive. That's the main reason I want 15".

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

3.75 should be ok (was that a typo when you said 2.75?) but it will stick out. My 305/70R16's stick out a bit with 4.5"

If your planning to go to 14.50's then yeah get the 15x10's. But 14.50's seem a bit wide for these trucks. I know people who run 33x14.50R16's on these trucks, and need 5" of lift just to keep them from rubbing.

Speaking of which, how much lift do you have? This is a Ram 1500 I'm assuming?

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

No 2.75 was not a typo, the Rock Crawler wheels i was thinking of are only 2.75 backspacing for 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern. It says 3.75 for 15 x 10's, but not for that bolt pattern.

I think I may go to American Eagle Series 559 instead, probably a hair more expensive, but has a 3.5 backspacing.

As far as lifts go, I have a 5" Skyjacker Lift on my 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 that i'm talking about.

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

I'm pretty sure the American Racing 767 come in a 3.75 in a 15x10. I know for a fact they come in that backspacing in a 15x8. And they are pretty damn cheap, i was quote 35 bucks a wheel. It goes up to about 50 a wheel for 16's.

Nice choice on the lift
Image
Sounds like a nice truck.

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

American Racing is pretty much the father of aftermarket wheels. The AR-767 black steelie is the wheel that everyone else copied to make their black steelies, rock crawlers, whatever. I'd go for it over the Rock Crawlers any day. Besides, Rock Crawlers are 4Wheel Fart's in house brand.
Image
Any Discount Tire can get American Racing rims for you.

If you look at the Tyres International website (www.tyres1.com), under the wheels section, you will find the American Racing AR-767 is available in 15x10 with a 5x5.5" bolt pattern and 4" of backspacing. Just thought you should know.

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

While we are at it, wonder what you guys think about this
Image

Do you think with a higher lift, maybe a small backspace is ok, letting the tires stick out more. Does that give you a little more stability and prevent a little less rollover? That makes the truck a little wider, or do you just think wider tires would do it, or the combo of both
Image

BTW, i'm ordering everything today
Image

Still not sure on the 15 x 10 vs 16 x 10 wheels, i'm going to ask the to 100% verify it for me. I still want 15 x 10, the tires are way cheaper.

So it looks like today...

15 x 10 or 16 x 10 wheels, rock crawler or amr 767
Pro Comp Mud Terrain 35 x 12.5 or 315/75/16's
Detroit Full Locker in the rear
4.56 Gearing

Need a new tow rope as well, probably will snag a 3" x 30' one.

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

The fact that the tires are going to stick out an extra 2-3" on each side right now is more than enough. Like we've told you again and again, less backspacing and you're gonna rub, bad.

Less backspacing is also bad on the bearings in the front axle. More leverage that they weren't designed for.

The more the tires stick out the more the truck gets dirty everytime you hit a puddle.

Stick with the 15x10's and 35x12.5R15's and save your cash. Save the 16's, not necessary unless you want higher load range tires or to run bigger axles and/or bigger brakes.

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

Well after going to the 4x4 shop today and ordering everything, they told me no on 15 x 10's for my truck. The person selling me stuff, didn't think so, but he talked to the manager there, and he said no, I should not run 15 x 10's on my truck.

So I ended up going with...

5, 16 x 10 Rock Crawler, with 4" backspacing
5, 315/75/16's Pro Comp Mud Tires

Probably cost me about $250ish more
Image

The wheels are almost the same price, but tires cost alot more
Image

Oh well, I feel more comfortable with 16 x 10's just in case, I do some sort of brake conversion in the future. Looks like late next week, or about a week and a half, I should have new wheels, tires, locker in the rear, and new gears, can't wait

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

So not listening to the advice of everyone on this forum, including people who HAVE run 15x10's on similar trucks, you let the sales guys, who probably do not own Dodge Rams, talk you into buying the more expensive rims and tires?
Image
You know, the ones they make the most commission off of?
Image
Dude, go back there and demand they change your [bleep] back to 15x10's and 35x12.5R15's. $250 is a lot of gas, or can buy some good stuff for your truck, even something for the wifey to keep her happy with all the money spent on the truck.
Image

You aren't having this stuff done at a 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers, are you?

THEY SUCK GOAT BALLS!!!!!

I do listen to peoples advice

No one really said, hey I have a mid 90's Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 and are running 15 x 10's they are great. Most people said, "I think", "You probably can". The shop manager that knows a ton about trucks, said no, and for safety sake, I went with it. They don't give a crap if I run 15's or 16's for profit sake.

He didn't know what I was buying or how much, he just happened to be outside and walking by, and I asked him to look at my truck. He looked at the rear and said no, I wouldn't run 15's. Also, since my truck came with 16's, it seems like the safest bet anyhow.

Now just incase I ever to a disc conversion in the rear, then this will be a good thing as well
Image

Why don't you like 4 Wheel Parts?? I have done tons of research on the web and at a few other 4x4 shops, and they always give me the best prices. Also DriveTrain Warehouse is offering a $100 rebate on labor, so I got $100 off labor at 4 Wheel Parts because of that. Having it done there gives me a 3 month warranty on labor, so I feel a little more at ease, incase something breaks.

They also have a no questions asked warranty on tires, which came to only about $80. I know someone that has this, and they blew out a side wall while crawling. They brought in the tire and they replaced it with no hassle. I have also found a pretty honest sales guy, which is nice to have in your corner.

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

If you had read a bit harder you'd have seen that many of us, myself included, had seen it in person, but whatever. If you do plan on doing a disc brake swap, the 16's will be the better choice. I recommend TSM's disc brake conversions. The cheapest and simplest bolt on units, and no special parts. Everything other than the conversion parts can be bought at a NAPA.

4Wheel Parts sucks. They are a bunch of lying, cheating, theiving, no good ass holes. They [bleep] ed me over when I was just getting into modifying my 92 Chevy Blazer. Screwed me over several ways, even stole the skid plates off my truck. Then denied it. Do a search on these forums for comments on 4Wheel Parts (also known as 4Wheel Farts). They suck. Bunch of morons too. So many people have had problems with them, that even if I didn't personnally hate them, I'll spend the extra little bit of money elsewhere to make sure I get the RIGHT stuff. Yes, I had them install the lift on my Blazer too, in El Cajon, CA.

Discount Tire has pretty much the same warranty. I always have found their prices to be better too. Not to mention Discount Tire's are EVERYWHERE.

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

Which store did you have problems with, the one in CA? One store may be bad, but maybe not all.

For example, maybe there is a Best Buy near by that just SUCKS!!!! But there may be 4 more not too far away that are GREAT!!!!

Quite often it's the people that work at the store, not always the store. Just curious which one you've had problems with.

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

Mine were with the several stores in the San Diego, CA area. I also had not to favorable experiences with their 1-800 phone number and the moronic operators there. The stories you will find by doing a search are all over the country though, pretty much everywhere there is a 4Wheel Farts store. I KNOW the one in Dallas has a bad reputation. There's a guy over on the GM IFS forum who can attest to that, his name is A1980GMC.

For instance:

I got these just by doing a search on all forums for 4 Wheel Parts. Make sure to put 99 in the amount of items per page, because there are a lot. Disturbing how many of the posts are unfavorable towards 4Wheel Parts.

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

Well it seems that some don't like them and some do.

I've had great success ordering from them and getting parts. I've installed everything myself so far, and so has my friend that has a Jeep Rubicon. Neither of us have had a problem with ordering products from them. This is the one in Dallas, TX.

Now I just ordered...

** 16 x 10 Rock Crawler wheels, not in stock, but will be there next week
** 315/75/16 Pro Comp Tires, in stock
** 4.56 Genuine Gears, not in stock, but will be there next week(actually had the gears for my Corporate 9.25, but the Dana 44 ones were out)
** Detroit Full Locker, not in stock, but will be there next week
** Pro Comp 3" x 30' Tow Rope, was in stock
** Warn Receiver Shackled for my Reese Hitch, out of stock, but will be there Monday

Now if everything isn't in stock next week, yes I will be a little disappointed, but since it's the holidays not too much. I would give them till the following Monday.

Now this is the first time i've had them do labor. My friend and I have had great success on prices and getting things in stock fast. Now if they take more than 2 or 3 days to install this, and screw anything up, then yes I will be a little upset, but I will have to wait and see.

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

I have one of those Warn receiver shackles with the D ring. Like it a lot. Actually one of the few things I ever got from 4Wheel Farts they didn't screw up. Big, heavy chunk of steel.
Image

Image

I had one of those ProComp tow straps. It tore surprisingly easily.
Image

Check ebay on the Detroit. I dunno if it's to late or not, but there was a Detroit for the Chrysler 9.25" in there. New in box. I found it searching for "Dodge 9.25".

Well, I do have to admit I did buy a 4x4 Posi-Lok actuator for my Blazer from Drivetrain Warehouse. They got it to me in 3 days for $10 less than the nearest competition. I did live in San Diego and they were in Los Angeles though. I didn't even know they were part of 4WPW's network until I got the receipt and it said 4WPW on it.

Re: Can I use 15 x 10 wheels on my \'95 Dodge Ram???

Yeah as far as Drivetrain Warehouse goes, I found them extremely knowledgable and helpful when it came to my drivetrain. I called them based on superswampers recommendation.

I have never called 4 Wheel Parts 1800 number before, so I don't know anything about that. I called the sales guy directs, or Drivetrain Warehouse normally.

Glad to hear about the Warn shackle. I look forward to getting it, since alot people are worried about straps slipping from hooks and smashing their windshield. Now as far as the ProComp Tow Strap, did you have the 3" x 30' one? If so, i'll be a little bummed, since alot people said this one blows away Canyon Crawler.
