Learned more than a few things.
First of which, there is no camping at Camp Jeep.
Second, the trails are all engineered so that a stock SWB jeep can cover even those rated most difficult. Trail ratings (IMO) more accurately address required driver's skill than obstacles. That said, dozens of GC's are now missing body cladding and mirrors.
Third, KJ's are not jeeps. After observing 2 towed from trails to the dealership with MAJOR breakage even my wife commented as to how "she could no longer consider them jeeps", that she has "lost all respect for them" and that" they should be considered "nice little CARS"...... This is coming from a person that has owned and loved an 02 KJ Limited..........
Fourth and final. Of the thousands of jeeps at Camp Jeep, I saw only a few lifted XJs. We are a rare breed indeed. The Camp Jeep store had not one XJ item of any kind. It's almost as if DC wishes we would go away.
Enjoy the pics

"It's almost as if DC wishes we would go away."

A very accurate statement. Particularly strange for the very vehicle that at one time single handedly saved AMC and had a signifigant hand in salvaging Chrysler on the second round and is one of the best selling and most well regarded vehicles of all time.

Proof positive that there are nothing but idiots in charge of the large car manufacturers. Thats ok though, they screwed up and produced to many millions of XJ's to ever be "rid" of us

Sounded like a good learning experience John.

Well....I'll let you know how the KJ's do at Camp Jeep in CA next month. Just got back from Santa Barbra...we pre-ran the trails for this years first camp jeep in CA. There were about 15 KJ's there that will be used as train guides...a couple of them were set up ok with 'real' locker and decent tires and lift....but considering that one blew the front diff, and another one had no front wheel drive, I expect Aug to be a busy weekend for towing......

BTW...Jhn, I like the color of your jeep....was that stock? Do you have a daytime pic?

Thanx. Yup, it's stock. Wife picked it. Chili Pepper Red Pearl Coat. I got the paint code somewhere.... It is real purty all waxed up in the sun. The metallic has sort of a gold n copper tone. Hit my profile. There is a link to more pics there including the Camp Jeep stuff that disappeared here.

I also did Camp Jeep in my 03' KJ Sport. Did two trails with no problems, but I intend to invest in skid plates as I figure my luck won't last for ever. I even did Jeep 101 in a KJ and it handled very well. I feel that the KJ is a very capable upgraded replacement for the XJ, and is a Jeep in every sense of the word.

Camp Jeep trails were engineered so that all stock jeeps could run them. Even still, a lot of Kjs suffered carnage along with a stable of Grands.
The trails at Camp Misty, where my wife and I stayed during CJ '04 were another story entirely. There was one lifted and locked Kj that made some of the trails there but despite the driver's skills and the mods, it still failed to navigate anything beyond the moderate trails.
Give the Kj and the aftermarket manufacturers a few years and I'm pretty sure things will change. Unlike some of the folks here, I'm not a Kj hater but seeing them work did lower their standing a bit in my eyes.

Awwww now John. How can a true Jeep lover hate a new Jeep? Just because they dropped the 4.0 and put in IFS and made it so you have to spend at least twice as much to make it equal to the Cherokee. Other than that I like 'em.....They grow on ya'. They're cute in a fluffy bunny's, puppy dogs and kitten's kind of way.

You didn't forget I had a KJ, did you?

I guess I got a lil riled when the fellow made the statement UPGRADED REPLACEMENT FOR THE XJ in reference to the KJ....

Like I've said before, there's alot to like about the lil thing BUT

In its OEM clothing, it's about one quarter of a cut above an OUTBACK.

What!?! You think I would actually flame a KJ just to rile you up a little? I'm shocked nay, incensed at the very idea!

Yes I remembered you have one. Just picking on you a little. Working 60 hours a week I have so little time for humor anymore.........

Besides, I think the KJ is WAY above a Subaru.

At least a forrester is hounest about being an SUV. Just because Chrysler puts "JEEP" on some round headlights SUV, I don't concider it a Jeep. And I dont even care about the straight axle/IRS/ISF issue as I also like VW's...
