Is there an easy inexpensive way to get around having to purchase the expensive key with the chip in it for the ignition. Wife and I just bought a 2002 Grand Cherokee and it only has one key with the chip and a 2nd standard cut key. I've noticed that as long as the key with the chip is on the key ring with the key without the chip, the key without the chip will start the key.

security key fix

as long as you have one security key this will work
what you need to do is buy a directed electronics(company name) bypass for the security key in a jeep/honda/gm/chrysler/ford part number should be U-555 Transponder by pass. you will open the unit and install the factory transponder key into it then hook up the wires to it

red 12volts positive

black chassis ground

yellow to ignition 12volts positive that doesnt loose voltage while cranking

there is a 2 foot long ring that mounts around the ignition switch under the steering colum cover ( be careful putting it back on so as not to put a screw through the wires to the ring)
then start truck with steel key to make sure it works then go buy a spare steel key
