I have an '80 CJ-7 with an SOA with 2" add-a-leaves and 35" BFG MTs. I have been contemplating a buggy leaf or 3/4 elliptical setup (about the same, right?) for some time. How stable is it on road? Off road? How about in panic stops? How much will it help articulation? Any other drawbacks or complications?

i built a "C-clamp kind of thing" to hold the "buggy leaf" up against the frame for street use, i remove it when my sway bar links come off. i consider it like insurance, or just a safety precaution. (check out the photo) if i did it again, i would make my buggy leafs longer, they do work as advertised.

I've been using a 3/4 elliptic rear on my cj5 for over a year and like it alot.
you can see it at My site on the Jeep page under rear suspension. A buggy spring and 3/4 ellipical spring are slightly different. The 3/4 spring archs down from the frame and a buggy spring lays flat against the frame(when on flat ground).
