Hello All,

Well all though I do not own a Buggy.. I plan on turning my Full-Size 1986 Ford Bronco into an off-road only rig.. and well I need to make a roll cage and what not... I was wondering if there are any decent budget ($200 or less) tubing benders out there..

Also what size tubing should I use? 2" x 1/4" wall?

Thanks in Advance

i don't have an answer for you on the tubing benders but watch out for the PIPE benders that harbor freight sells. they are for bending *pipe* not tubing (there is a difference) and won't bend tubing well at all, in fact it likes to kink it.
this company makes the nicest, econonmical tubing benders i have seen, but they are not cheap. http://www.jd2.com

Tom,

Thanks, I have noconfindence in ANYTHING Harbor Freight sells.. buddy bought a makita drill from there.. and he has owned makita all his life.. and well.. first it took a month to recieve it... and they had it in stock... second they ship U.S. Mail... what business ships U.S. Mail? third the thing died after a month and it took him about 5-6 phone calls just to try to be able to return it... finally he gave up... I bought him a new makita @ home depot just to shut him up.. he was very pissed...

I checked out JD2... not a bad deal I could always buy it... then sell it as used.. or even look to see if there is a used one out there...

Thanks for the info... and yea.. Harbor Freight == Shady company..

HELLO STEVE
THERE'S THIS GUY ON THE VW MESSAGE BOARD I VISIT AND HE IS SELLING A NEW BENDER FOR $200 MINUS THE DIES.
AND I FOUND OUT THAT HIS FRIEND THAT MASS PRODUCE THESE BENDERS LIVED 15 MILES AWAY FROM ME. SO I'M NOT WORRIED ABOUT SELL OUTS. I'LL CHECK MY MAIL AND GET HIS ADDRESS.
A GOOD 1 1/2 OR 1 3/4 TUBING WOULD MAKE A GOOD ROLLCAGE FOR YOUR PROJECT.

Cool... so 1 1/2" or 1 3/4" will be fine? what wall thickness?

Thanks,

For your Bronco since it's a full size I suggest 1 3/4 x .120
Shipping it to NY might be a problem though.

Dude, go with 2". A little extra weight won't kill you with a full size (and it could save your life)
