Bucking Bronco? I thought I bought a Jeep.....

Here's my problem:
For arguement sake we'll say that the throttle is half way down. My 88 YJ I4 2.5L with new cat back exhaust and recent full tune-up (minus vavle adjustment) STILL bucks! It sounds almost like it's bogging down, as if it's "falling forward" and then it will take off and almost push me back in the seat. Remember... this is all happening without me moving the throttle at all and there is no change in elevation of the road. So, someone please tell me why this is happening and how to fix it. It's drivable now, but just barely. And I'm worried that I may be causing damage.

Is it getting constant fuel pressure? If your fuel delivery system (pump, lines, filter) aren't giving you constant fuel, you can have these symptoms? Just a thought.

Sounds like a bad accelerator pump cracked diaphram probably....normally a quick, cheap and easy fix- easy to verify if it is faulty too. CB

Someone said something about it being a bad ignition.... But how do I test that? I assume he meant ignition coil. I'm having a brain fade today.........

hello 88jeeper I have an 88 4 banger as well. Do not worry about the valves, they are hydraulic. The problem you are having may be
the same as I had, the engine would feel like it was cutting out,but only at speed (half throttle). There are a couple of relays on
the passenger side of the battery, swap these. If the problem goes away replace both and get a spare to keep in the glove box.
One of the relays is for the fuel pump, when mine went bad it would only give the fuel pump half voltage, this can be checked at the
fuel pump connection. Please let respond if this works, because if it does not I have other ideas!

Re: Bucking Bronco? I thought I bought a Jeep.....**UPDATE!!!

Actually I think I owe a big thanks to the guy who said it was my TPS....
I went out last night and unplugged it, checked it real quick ...not knowing what I was looking for , and plugged it back in.

The Jeep ran great today! To work AND home from work! I even took it to lunch and the guy that usually goes with me was impressed in the difference...

So, maybe I just had a loose connection? hope so.

There's no fix like a fix that doesn't cost you money!
