Hey now guys, I can't seem to get the balancer pully off the crankshaft. I'm using a pully puller but I have ruined two sets of bolts. I noticed the crankshaft has a long bolt that looks at first glance to hold the pully on but it just bottoms out aginst the crankshaft. Do I need to heat the pully??? Thanks in advance

Re: Bronco II crankshaft pully removal trouble

actually you would want to stick a smaller diameter and locnger bolt into the pully, it will rest against the bottom of the hole, using the pulley's bolt could damage threads.

Re: Bronco II crankshaft pully removal trouble

Hey now guys, thanks for these thoughts but its not going to be that easy for me. I have 2 Bronco II. One is for parts. Both have the 2.9L. I am swapping motors. I got both motors out but can't get the pully off either motor. Neither had a washer between the bolt and pully. Both pullys are two peice that when the 4 smaller bolts are removed, the front half of the pully is removed. I runed a standard pully trying to get them off. I don't think there is any way the pully is going to come off by hand. I thought about trying to put a solid rod in the center bolt hole but I don't see how that could be any better as my puller has a cone end that seats into the hole. Are you guys sure I won't need to heat it???

Re: Bronco II crankshaft pully removal trouble

2.9L is easy give me a second and ill find the directions.

First take out the bolt. Second runa rod into hole for puller to rest against. third give rod a sharp rap from a hammer. four start to use puller to pull off pulley forcing against the rod. Should come off. You dont want to heat it do to warpage.

Re: Bronco II crankshaft pully removal trouble

Hey now guys, the rod in the crank bolt hole worked just fine. I didn't have to rap it with a hammer. I thank you for your help. I should of looked close and I would of seen the end of the crankshaft is behind the pully but it sure looked at first glance that the end of the crank was sticking through the pully..............NOT! thanks again.
